Since 2008, “Forum för utställare”, an association representing museum staff and other professionals engaged in museum exhibitions in Sweden, has nominated Vrak for the Exhibition of the Year prize. The Museum of Wrecks is thrilled to have been chosen as one of this year’s three finalists.
“As a new museum that opened less than a year ago, we are extremely proud to be part of the competition for Sweden’s finest exhibition award,” says Odd Johansen, museum director.

The museum has been nominated for “Under the Surface”, which includes Sea of Memories and Resande Man. The other nominees are “Boro – The Art of Necessity” from the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities and “Judiskt kunskapscentrum” from the Jewish Community Centre of Malmö. The winner will be announced at the spring meeting of the Swedish Museums Association on 26 April in Halmstad, and the award will go to the exhibition that best promotes the evolution of exhibitions as a medium in Sweden.

Motivation of the jury

“In a suggestive, holistic experience below the water’s surface, the visitor enters a world at the bottom of the sea. The story is told by the sea itself. With the Baltic Sea as a guide who sparks the imagination, the visitor is transformed into a maritime archaeologist in a deep dive among algae, shipwrecks and depictions of objects that still rest on the seafloor. Thanks to digital salvaging, Resande Man takes the exhibition medium to new heights.”
